Torqeedo, the global leader in electric mobility on water, is excited to announce its participation in the 2024 Olympics in Paris. A highlight of the event will be the opening ceremony on July 26, featuring a grand parade of ninety boats on the Seine, including four equipped with Torqeedo electric motors.
Electrification of “Mistinguett”
“Mistinguett,” the longest river cruise boat in Paris, will be at the heart of this parade. This historic 240-ton, 42-meter-long vessel has been fully retrofitted with two Torqeedo Deep Blue 100i motors and six Deep Blue Battery 80 systems. This conversion allows “Mistinguett” to transport up to 248 passengers sustainably and emission-free. It will perform two daily cruises of two and a half hours each, transporting tourists and athletes silently and without pollution.
Commitment to Sustainability
The City of Paris aims to halve the environmental footprint of the Olympics compared to previous editions. The conversion of “Mistinguett” to electric propulsion aligns perfectly with this goal. “We are proud to support Paris with our latest Customized Solutions project, setting new standards in sustainability for the 2024 Olympics,” said Matthias Vogel, Senior Vice President of the Customized Solutions division at Torqeedo.
National Engagement
France is at the forefront of promoting sustainable navigation. The French government, through Voies Navigables de France (VNF), subsidizes up to 90% of the costs for converting boats to electric propulsion. This national initiative demonstrates the country’s strong commitment to reducing carbon footprints and preserving natural waterways.
A Zero-Emission Future
The opening ceremony parade, featuring dance shows and vibrant celebrations along the banks, will highlight the importance of sustainable transport. Torqeedo’s participation with at least four electric-powered boats, including “Mistinguett,” emphasizes the significance of alternative and environmentally friendly transport solutions.
